Samsara New Years Retreat

With Mona Godfrey and Christian Coelho

The ancient Greeks and Christian theologians, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, understood agape as the highest form of love. The kind of love that comes from the depths of our soul - not from our ego - and that has the capacity to unite all people and heal the planet. How committed are we to this kind of selfless, unconditional love? How invested are we in being part of a system that brings harmony, reciprocity, and generosity to the world? What stands in our way from connecting to this divine love that resides in our hearts? The yogic path to agape can only be attained through diligent practice, and taking time off from the usual sources of distractions is an incredibly important step. By doing so, we nourish ourselves and we recognise that our actions are not only meant to benefit ourselves, but they can be of service to others. By connecting to agape - through a mindful physical practice, meditation, ceremony, and community - we remember the underlying power that sustains this world. Love. Join High Yoga School as they host a special retreat in Greece to help us open our hearts and experience love in all forms.

“As a man in his last breath
drops all he is carrying
each breath is a little death
that can set us free.”
– Mark Nepo

In the East, the “wheel of samsara” has been used by various traditions to depict the continuous cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Beyond the literal belief in transmigration, samsara can also be seen as a powerful symbol that remind us of letting go and starting again anew. If we think about it, a new life is available to us with every breath, in every moment.

Take time to nourish and nurture your body, mind and soul at the start of the new year. This retreat includes twice daily yoga and meditation, community gatherings, kirtans, foraging, wood burning sauna, and a special New Years Eve meal and celebration around bonfire. All of it surrounded by ancient woodlands, a beautiful lake suitable for wild swimming and an abundance of wildlife. With over 170 Acres to explore, this is the perfect place to come to unwind, relax and connect with nature in the beautiful UK countryside. Step into the new year feeling revitalized and ready for what’s ahead.

Mona has launched and directed various studios and retreat centers in the US, Australia, and Indonesia. She is currently residing in London, where she leads group classes, workshops, teacher trainings, and retreats. Mona is a proud co-founder of High Yoga School. Meet Christian, an experienced London-based yoga teacher who teaches dynamic classes with a healing and mindful approach. He has been inspired by his exposure to a variety of yoga modalities, and likes to be creative with his class themes and sequences. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, where he founded his yoga studio Casa 111, Christian initially trained in Ashtanga & Rocket Vinyasa Yoga. Seeking to explore the healing and ceremonial elements of yoga, he later specialized in the therapeutic styles of Yin, Forrest Yoga, as well as the Native American practices. After travelling to India, his passion for the history and philosophy of yoga was ignited. This led him to further his studies with renowned scholars at SOAS University of London, graduating with a masters degree in the Traditions of Yoga. One of his missions is to present the philosophy of yoga in an accessible way for students to not only understand, but embody its principles in life. For the past 7 years, Christian has travelled extensively, running retreats, teaching workshops, lectures, kirtans, and leading teacher trainings in Europe, Indonesia, and South America.
